SUMMARY:This Land We Share
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 250 Years\n\n\nSpanning decades and crossing state lines\, This Land We Share: Celebrating 250 Years of America brings together photographs from across the United States\, with images on display from every state Clyde Butcher has photographed. From deserts and mountains to forests\, coastlines\, and wetlands\, these works reveal the extraordinary diversity of America’s landscapes and reflect a lifelong devotion to the land. Clyde’s photographs invite viewers to slow down\, look closely\, and feel the quiet power of these places the same way he does when he stands behind the camera.\nA Flag for the Land\n\n\nIn 1997\, an American flag was flown over the United States Capitol in honor of Clyde Butcher in recognition of his work celebrating and protecting America’s natural landscapes. The flag was later gifted to Clyde\, a symbol of how art can inspire care for the land we share.\n\n“Because a few courageous people stood up to protect it\, we can still experience places that look much as they did centuries ago. I am forever grateful to those heroes who fought to preserve what matters.” \n\n— Clyde Butcher \n\nThe Heart of This Land We Share\n\n\nOn an early summer morning\, far from my home in the Florida swamps\, I waited by my camera as the light slowly revealed the mountains before me. In that stillness\, I felt a deep gratitude for being alive and a strong desire to share the beauty of that moment.\n\nAs I waited\, I thought about why these places matter. Our country was shaped by the abundance and beauty of its natural landscapes\, yet much of that wilderness has been lost. The unspoiled places we can still experience today exist because a few people stood up to protect them. I am grateful to those who came before us and hope our generation will leave a legacy of beauty for those who come next.\n\nThese photographs come from a desire to inspire gratitude for the land that has shaped our nation and to offer viewers the same sense of peace and connection I feel when I am in nature. My hope is that these images help us reflect on what is sacred on this earth and remind us of our connection to each other and the world we share.\n\n \n\nExplore Clyde’s America the Beautiful collection
